Well…first winner is the child who gets a copy of my book.  Example:  Child, sitting at the car dealership with mom or dad, waiting for the service department to change the oil, rotate the tires.  Boring!!!  On the table is a "Charlie" book.  On the front cover is a label that says "TAKE ME! I'M FREE!"  The child leave the car dealership with a "gift"..one of the best kind to give to children because we know when a child "owns" a book, they will read it. The more they read, the better their literacy proficiency.

Next winner – the business who purchased the books and whose information is on the front and inside label of the book.  When parents see that this business "gave" their child a book, they will remember the name of that business when next they need that service.

Third winner – the car dealership where they got the book.  When someone asked "where did you get the book", that car dealership's name will be shared.  So, the car dealership becomes known as a business that not only offers great service, but they go the extra mile to make the customer and their family happy.

Fourth winner – me, of course.  My children's books will be in the hands of children.  Parents will want to know more about my company.  My literacy programs will become known and the opportunity to make a difference in the lives of children is likely.

LITERACY, according to the dictionary, is a noun and means "the quality or state of being literate".  LITERATE, an adjective, is defined as  the "ability to read 

Imagine how your life would be different if you were not able to read or write.  Imagine the things you would not be able to do…fill out a job application, enjoy reading books, read instructions of how to put your child's toy together, get a driver's license…I could go on.  The bottom line, very few people can achieve success without being able to read or write. 

As I tell my AIT's (Authors In Training) who attend my "Read Up! Write On! Literacy Rules!" program, reading helps us learn, writing helps us teach what we know.  Up until grade three, children learn to read.  After that, they read to learn.

While March may have been chosen to be "Literacy Month", I challenge all who read this to dedicate every day of every month for Literacy. 

The ability to read and write makes a huge difference in all our lives.

It is well known that if we can get books IN the hands of children, they will read them.  More reading equals more learning.  More learning equals more success in their lives.

So, I formed The Traveling Book Club for Children (TTBCC) which gives everyone the opportunity to help improve one of the most important skills our children need to be successful adults – LITERACY.

I am determined to make a difference in the lives of children by making my "Charlie" books available to them.  My books also send the message that "being different is good" and help children understand how our emotions affect our choices and decisions.
