Self-Published Authors

So, I’m hoping connect with other self-published authors, chat about your experience promoting your books.  My specialty is children’s and poetry books, which is certainly quite different from other genres.  I made the rounds to small gift stores (since big companies like Barnes & Noble and B.Dalton can only order through Ingrams or Baker & Taylor)…they want a huge discount which would mean I would sell each book at a loss.  I haven’t had the luxury of printing 1000 or 2000 copies of my books, which helps to drive the price down.  So, I designed a Writer-in-Residence program to promote CHARLIE that I offer to schools.  That has been challenging as well…mainly because school budgets have been frozen so there are no funds available to bring in an “extremely” affordable author.    My poetry book has been “sitting”, waiting for me to put my marketing plan in place – promoting it to churches since it includes Bible passages so must stay clear of public schools.  I created a Writer’s Workshop, plus a Benefit Concert format…where I share my poetry, spiritual journey and songs.  Since my second edition of Inspirations from My Family & Friends is about to be released, I guess I need to find those churches and let them know what I offer.  I’d be interested in chatting with anyone who has self-published a children’s or poetry book, understanding what your experience has been.  Oh, by the way, I offer advertising opportunities on my website for you as well.
